Ewington = Saint Bathans
Ewington is the alternate version of Saint Bathans, a small gold mining town in Central Otago, New Zealand. The name, ‘Ewington’, comes from John Ewing, the most prominent mining entrepreneur of the area.
In 1866, the town had a population of around 2000 miners and their families. The current official population of Saint Bathans if 5. Yup, that’s right. You can count Saint Bathans’ residents on one hand.
The Vulcan is still run as a pub and hotel, and has been maintained to pretty much its original condition.
